Stone Island was ready to make their move into the footwear space this year, collaborating with New Balance on their classic 574 silhouette. New Balance’s Stone Island collaboration derives from military inspiration, highlighted by various shades of grey and green throughout the uppers. The sneakers are constructed of premium suede and mesh, and sit on top of a two-toned grey and white midsole. Stone Island branding on the tongue tops off this sneaker of the year candidate. The New Balance 574 Legacy Stone Island released February 16, 2023, with a retail price of $140. The Stone Island x New Balance 574 Legacy ‘Steel Blue’ reunites the partner brands on a modernized interpretation of the retro runner. The upper blends a steel blue ripstop upper with hairy grey pigskin suede overlays and an updated ‘N’ logo in a unique crosshatch texture. Additional branding elements include Stone Island’s compass logo on the tongue tag, ‘New Balance’ stamped on the matte silver back tab, and ‘Stone Island Product Research’ visible through the semi-translucent heel clip. The sneaker is mounted on an ENCAP midsole, supported by a durable lugged rubber outsole.
