The Air Jordan 9 Retro Anthracite is part of the Jordan brand's collection of retro Air Jordan models, specifically the Air Jordan 9 Retro which first debuted in 1993. The "Anthracite" colorway refers to the dark shade of grey used throughout the shoe. The shoe’s upper is primarily constructed with a combination of black leather and nubuck materials. It also features an abstract pattern on the upper, a neoprene sockliner for a snug and comfortable fit as well as a unique lacing system that incorporates plastic lace loops. The Air Jordan 9 Retro Anthracite includes signature details such as the Jumpman logo on the tongue and heel, as well as the number "23" on the heel as a tribute to Michael Jordan's jersey number. When the Air Jordan 9 Retro Anthracite first hit the market on September 5th 2015 it was set for retail priced at $190. The Air Jordan 9 Retro ‘Anthracite’ resembles the Air Jordan 9 Retro ‘Oregon Ducks’ player exclusives received by Oregon University football players during their 2001 BCS Bowl season. The design features a muted anthracite nubuck upper and the six white lace eyelets found on the original Air Jordan 9 — the 2001 and 2015 retro releases feature only five lace eyelets.
