As part of the Doernbecher Freestyle XIX Collection, the Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 Low Doernbecher Garrett is one of six classic Nike silhouettes reimagined by patients and former patients of OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Designed by Garrett Amerson, a 12-year-old born at extreme prematurity, this shoe features trail-inspired details that pay tribute to the Pacific Northwest. The outer side panel displays an outline of Mount Hood with silhouetted evergreens and clouds, while mud splatter motifs decorate the midsole and rugged outsole, inspired by mountain bike tires. A purple butterfly next to Mount Hood honors Amerson’s twin brother who passed away in the NICU. The Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 Low Doernbecher Garrett was released on December 2, 2023, and sold for $150. This design also showcases a forest graphic on the semi-translucent mesh upper, a blue waterfall on the tongue, and a brown mud splatter effect throughout the midsole and lugged rubber outsole, enhancing its outdoor hiking theme.
