The OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon started a partnership with Nike in 2010 to allow admitted children and teenagers to design their very own footwear creations. The Air Jordan 3 Retro 'Doernbecher' was created by Cole Johanson. The sneaker features a red leather upper with “COLE” spelled out within the diamond grip pattern and callouts to his two favorites foods, spaghetti and chocolate, behind the pull tab. The sneaker also boasts black leather details throughout, an Air unit in the midsole for responsive cushioning, and “Strength and Courage” lettering on the insole as a nod to his lymphoma.
